17th Annual 10K Dirty Sock Run

WHAT A TERRIFIC DAY WE HAD ON RACE DAY!  Hopefully by now everyone has seen the amazing coverage we received in the Babylon Beacon about our fundraiser!  The morning was cool and sunny.  The trail was pristine.  The juicy watermelon, cold beer & hot dogs were greatly appreciated by runners at our after party.  Our new swag item, the Dirty Sock Run HAT was a HUGE hit. We already have a Bulk Food Buy in the works for our local soup kitchens.

Thank you to SKIP, Babylon Village, volunteers & sponsors!  BIG THANK YOU to our PLATINUM LEVEL SPONSOR,  Rotarian GAIL SULLIVAN!

Donation to Ryan Outreach Center
The Babylon Rotary Club met with Noel Campbell, director of Ryan Outreach Center to learn more about their services & present a check for $600.

The Ryan Outreach Center is a non-profit organization service Wyandanch and its surrounding communities.  They provide a host of services but more important act as a crisis center where anyone can walk in and ask for help.

Food Pantry

The Gerald J. Ryan Outreach food pantry provides emergency food assistance to those in need in the Wyandanch area and neighboring communities. The pantry is one of the largest food pantries of its kind on Long Island—providing assistance to an average of 15,000 men, women and children annually.

Clothing Room

Clothing is essential to survival, but often too costly for the many families we serve. The clothing at the Outreach center is available to anyone in need, at no charge. Clothing and many other household items are made possible through a variety of donations, which include clothing, shoes and many other items.

Summer Camp

The Gerald J. Ryan Summer Camp at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Wyandanch has served the community for over thirty years. We enroll 100+ children in Grades 1 – 6. The campers take part in camp activities for five weeks during late June and July, Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

$1000 Donation to Save the Great South Bay
Babylon Rotary Club President Megan Noble presented Save the Great South Bay Director Robyn Silvestri with a donation of $1000.  The club enjoyed lunch & a thorough review of all of Save the Great South Bay's diligent efforts to keep our waterways clean.

Save the Great South Bay is a local 501(c)3 non-profit that actively works to restore the Great South Bay and with that, strengthen our South Shore communities.

-  Creek Defender Program - Their Creek Defenders help the 50 creeks flowing into the Great South Bay move freely by removing debris & monitoring invasive species.

- Restoring Oyster Habitat - Oysters eat murky water lunch.  Did you know a single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day?! The Great South Bay Oyster Project restores oysters and utilizes their natural filtration capabilities to help clean the Bay. (7000 oysters have been planted)

- Planting Bay Friendly - They are restoring habitat for local wildlife by putting back what was her long before we were through their Bay Friendly Yards Program.  (43 total acres have been restored.)

- Education & Advocacy - They connect with educators, politicians and other important decision makers to make sure future generations understand the importance of restoring the bay while also influencing important legislative changes.
